Handcrafted Candle

Care Guide

Every Moombati candle is made by hand and deserves a little care in return. These guidelines will help your candle burn cleanly, last longer, and look beautiful throughout its life.

🕯️
First Burn Matters
Always allow the wax pool to reach the edge of the container on the very first burn. This sets the memory of the wax and prevents tunnelling on future burns.
✂️
Trim the Wick
Before every burn, trim the wick to 5–6 mm. A long wick causes soot, mushrooming, and uneven burning. Use scissors or a wick trimmer.
⏱️
Burn Time Per Session
Limit each burn to 3–4 hours maximum. Burning too long overheats the wax pool, weakens the scent, and can damage the vessel or figure-form.
💧
Keep Wax Clean
Never let dust, wick trimmings, or match debris fall into the wax pool. Debris can cause flare-ups and contaminate the burn.

Do's

Don'ts

By Candle Type

Caring for your specific piece

🎨

Decorative & Sculptural

  • These pieces are art objects first, candles second. Use them sparingly.
  • If burning, keep sessions short (max 2 hours) to preserve the sculpted form.
  • Wipe gently with a dry soft cloth to keep the surface dust-free.
  • Do not use cleaning sprays or water — the pigments and wax are delicate.
  • Display away from direct sunlight to prevent colour fading.
🌸

Scented Utility Candles

  • Allow a full melt pool on the first burn to develop the fragrance evenly.
  • A 3–4 hour burn releases the fragrance fully — beyond that, scent diminishes.
  • Trim the wick each time. A mushrooming wick reduces scent throw.
  • Keep the lid on (if provided) between burns to preserve the top notes.
  • Burn in a ventilated room — fragrance is best enjoyed, not accumulated.

Festive & Occasion Pieces

  • Many festive pieces — diyas, seasonal sets — are primarily decorative.
  • If burning, place on a fire-safe tray to catch any drips.
  • Diya-style candles have shallow wax pools — burn times will be shorter.
  • Store festive pieces wrapped in tissue when not in use.
  • Handle with care — hand-painted motifs are delicate at the edges.
🪆

Figure & Molded Candles

  • Figure candles are hand-sculpted — their charm is their imperfection.
  • Display these in cool, shaded environments — they soften in direct heat.
  • If a figure candle softens slightly in summer, refrigerate for 10 minutes.
  • These are collector's items — consider not burning them at all.
  • Handle with clean, dry hands — natural oils can dull the surface.
Storage

When your candle rests

🌡️
Temperature
Store at 15–25°C. Avoid extremes — heat softens and deforms, cold can cause cracking on the surface.
💧
Humidity
Low humidity is best. Moisture causes sweating on the wax surface and can affect hand-painted details.
🌑
Light
Keep out of direct sunlight. UV light fades colour pigments and degrades fragrance over time.
📦
Packaging
Keep original packaging or wrap in acid-free tissue. Never store unwrapped pieces in contact with each other.
